At the end of last month, I announced that I would be ceasing the manufacturing of personal care products. I injured my left hand almost 2 years ago and after many attempts to make everything right in my world, I had to make the decision to close up shop.
Personal Care Truth will be one year old this May and I’m proud to be a co-founder. The feedback, comments and suggestions that continue to come in are overwhelming, helpful, and greatly appreciated! The time I spent operating my other company will now be transferred to continuing to make Personal Care Truth the best it can be. Let’s face it, any company that stops wanting to improve will forever be left in the dust.
Kristin and I have many things planned for Personal Care Truth and I so wish I could discuss them now. The plans we have in the works, are what we wanted to do from the very beginning. Crunched for time and money, we launched Personal Care Truth with what we felt the cosmetic industry, as a whole, needed.
Now that I can direct more of my attention to Personal Care Truth, I’m grabbing the bull by the horns. The Safe Cosmetics Act of 2010 did not make it through the 111th Congress. At the time of writing this post, I became aware through an email newsletter from The Handcrafted Soapmakers Guild that “Congresswoman Schakowsky intends to introduce a revised version of the Safe Cosmetics Act in the 112th Congress sometime in the late Spring.” It was just last March that The Colorado Safe Personal Care Products Act was heard before Colorado legislators. Susan Roll, a founding member of the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, testified they did not have the science to justify changing cosmetic regulations. The Colorado Safe Personal Care Products Act failed to pass.
Since launching, we heard “vested interest”, “where is the money coming from” and more. Personal Care Truth supports the cosmetic industry as a whole. We don’t choose between big and small companies or natural and synthetic ingredients. That’s not why we started this site. It’s about the truth and the science behind personal care products, no matter what that truth may be. It’s as simple as that.
When the new legislation hits the political highway, you can bet I will be present and accounted for. The cosmetic industry has been manufacturing safe cosmetics for a very long time. Now that I have all this extra time on my hands, I will definitely put it to good use in combating the misinformation and fear mongering.
