Knowing that we need to shift a few pounds is one thing – actually doing something proactive about it is something completely different. Here are some tips about Mindset Hacks When embarking on a weight loss journey.
Too many of us are guilty of starting the week out with all our good intentions, only to fail by Monday evening.
Those habits are hard to break, and are often so wrapped up in emotional issues, and self sabotaging behaviours that we end up going round and round in a vicious cycle.
And more often than not, this has the opposite effect on what we actually want to achieve and the weight goes back on, and more!
Your best approach is to strip back the complexities of embarking on a healthier eating plan, and stick with these five simple mind hacks, which will help you keep on track and focussed – and before you know it.
You’ll have dropped those first few vital pounds and be that little bit closer to meeting your ultimate goal.
1. Don’t Start On A Monday
For one thing, you’ll probably overeat all weekend because you’ll have the mindset that it doesn’t matter, as Monday you’ll be cutting it all out again.
All this does is feed into your ‘all or nothing’ mentality which is a constant source of derailment for people trying to change to a healthier regime.
The trouble is, you’ll be good for a few days over the week, then start looking to the weekend again as the source of all pleasure!
Saturday and Sunday you end up binging again because you ‘deserve’ it, undo all your good work, and have to start all over again on the Monday.
2. If You Trip Up, Don’t Over Catastrophise It
If you fall off track it is all too easy to just think f@$# it and fall straight back into old, unhealthy habits.
Please don’t – it is not necessary. So you tripped up. No worries – you’re only human. Just pick up from where you left off and don’t give it any more thought.
The trouble with over catastrophising it is that you end up berating yourself, which in turn scrapes away at your confidence and self esteem.
Instead, focus on getting back on track, and praising yourself for doing so!
3. A Marathon Not A Sprint – But Start Moving!
If you need to lose a good chunk of weight, you need to give it time. It’s not going to happen overnight.
Your weight loss journey is a marathon, not a sprint. But you will help yourself if you start moving more.
If the thought of beasting it in the gym does not appeal, there are many different forms of exercise that you can enjoy without making yourself uncomfortable.
Find something that you enjoy – the more you enjoy it, the more likely you are to do it regularly and consistently.
4. Do It For Someone Else – Raise The Stakes
Use a bit of external judgement to keep you on track. If someone you know is aware of your desire to hit certain goals, that little bit of ‘pressure’ may be just what you need to get you over a bump in the road.
If you only do it for yourself, you can only too easily give yourself a get out clause!
That external judgement may be in the form of a personal trainer such as Be You Health Studios – someone who will work with empathy, but kick butt when necessary!
5. Keep Focussed On You Goal
Never lose sight of that ultimate goal. Your imagination is a powerful tool, and you need to keep imagining how you want to see yourself every step of the way.
Always remember – focus on what you can do, not on what you cannot!
