Kelly McGillis was born in Los Angeles, California, on July 9, 1957, as the eldest of three daughters of Dr. Donald and homemaker Virginia. She is a descent of Scottish-Irish, German, and Welsh
In her teens, McGillis went to Newport Harbor High School in Newport Beach. After that, she attended Allan Hancock College’s Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts in Santa Maria for her higher education. Later she moved to New York City to study acting at Juilliard and graduated with her BFA in 1983.
