This is a well done critique of the ‘shockumentary’ the Story of Cosmetics. A step by step dissection of what Annie Leonard is passing off as the truth is nothing more than fear mongering at its best! It’s a little over 16 minutes long and worth every minute! Thank you Lee Doren and How The World Works for this critique!

What I recently learned after locating this video and watching more of the critiques of Annie Leonard videos by How The World Works, apparently these are produced and are provided to the kids in the classrooms as though these are the stated facts by one woman's perspective. Plus it explains the animation and why many of us felt we were being informed as though we were 5 years old.
It is clear that her mindset is one of an environmentalist, which is not a bad thing, necessarily, but by the way she skews facts in order to make her point. It is clear she has issues with capitalism and believes government should be providing and taking care of everything we consume in this country, whereby eliminating a free thinking society.
It is videos like these that require us to push back at the propaganda they produce, and if these types of videos are now in our schools, we need to be able to provide counterpoints to them….the other side of the issue.
Thanks again to Lee Doren for being one of those “free thinkers”, who through his videos supports a free society in America so we can continue to provide wonderful skin care products to our free thinking consumers who choose “choice”.

While I agree with you that her videos are not fact-based, I don't think it's fair to paint her as someone who “believes government should be providing and taking care of everything we consume in this country, whereby eliminating a free thinking society.”
It's not completely unreasonable to have the government involved in ensuring that cosmetics are safe. Government involvement is not all bad. I suspect Lee Doren would not agree and would rather everything be worked out in the free market.
However, the government should base it's action on the findings of science. The Story of Cosmetics is not based on science, nor is the legislation that it supports. That is the biggest problem with this piece of propaganda.

Thanks Perry for showing support for our fight against this legislation…and just to clarify, I did not make this remark based on this video. I based it on her other videos she has produced such as the Story Of Stuff…Take a looksie, in fact Lee Doren makes counterpoints to these as well.
It is interesting STUFF ;~)

When it was discovered that Al Gore's film was being presented to kids in classrooms in the UK, there was uproar. I would like to think that the same would happen if that inane, biased rubbish were also shown in schools here, only on a much bigger scale!
